[permanent intro] A BRIEF BIO

Deborah Waldrip was born in New Mexico, where she attended the University of New Mexico. She also attended UCLA, earning a Masters degree (Architecture) in 1996. She has remained in Los Angeles since then, working at various architecture firms and establishing her own studio in April, 2001 (specializing in in custom residences, housing, and small retail projects). She is a licensed architect in the State of California. You may review a more complete biography here.

1-1-2002 Personal: Mediterranean Architecture
Working on the Latigo 4 project, questions began to pop up, including how to redefine Mediterranean architecture in the contemporary context. Which of its various 'roots' (myths?) should one address in attempting to redefine it? What are its structural characteristics, upon which variations could be based? A trip to Guadalajara followed the research stages of the project, to look at Luis Barragan's early 'colonial period', as well as other of the modern architecture which, in that area of the world, had been strongly influenced by the 'Mediterranean' and the writings of Ferdinand Bac.
