detail: As usual, we will start with open question and answer for any area you want to learn more about. This is free training, don't be shy -- come at 7 pm and ask! Starting at 8 pm, we will shift to our main topic for the evening: the state of the ArchiCAD world, with a report on the recent national Graphisoft reseller conference in San Antonio. There is a lot happening. We
saw demonstrations of ArchiCAD working with GIS, model-checking, estimating and energy calculation systems. The world of ArchiCAD is expanding, and new alliances are being formed each month. We will also be demonstrating a new add-on for ArchiCAD called Ductwork. Based on the HVAC add-on for ArchiCAD 7, it has been reworked for version 8.1 and repriced at $295. It allows you to easily draw and model HVAC ductwork in both 2-D and 3-D for construction drawings, visualization, and interference checking. Also, a free new service for energy calcs offered by Green Building Studio. PG&E and California Edison have funded development of this technology to promote more energy-efficient building design. It allows a designer to pass along a schematic design model for energy calcs. Then the design can be reworked, or different alternative schemes created and compared, to enable better design choices to be made.
