lecture: 'America's New Downtowns'
New School of Architecture (1249 F Street; downtown San Diego)
info: 619-224-8584 [FSDA]; tradinlady@cox.net
detail: Larry Ford (Professor; Geography; San Diego State University). A prolific writer and lecturer, Professor Ford will be discussing his latest book, 'America's New Downtowns: Reinvention or Revitalization'. Research is one of Ford's special interests: comparative urban form/architecture, downtown revitalization, neighborhood social organization, cultural meaning of urban space and models of city structure. In 1999 Prof. Ford did a survey on alleyways. His results may surprise you (Union Trubune, Jan. 6, 2002, an Emmet Pierce article). Roger Showley's article in the Union on Dec. 7, 2003 on Fire Tests a City's Character includes comments Prof. Ford made on San Diegans response to the devastating fires.
